Living For Our Father "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16 (NKJV) Jesus is speaking to His disciples. He is encouraging them. He is teaching them. He is sharing with them the secrets of His life. These are people who have come to Him. They saw the miracles He performed by healing the sick. They saw His compassion for them. He did have the people focus on Himself, rather He told them that God was visiting themselves and the multitudes. He told them the "Kingdom of God was here." He told them that God was with Him, giving Him the power to do these mighty works, showing the people that the God of Heaven loved them. When the people saw the miracles He did, they did not say "what a great man you are." Rather, the Bible says, when Jesus healed the people "they marveled and glorified God, who had given such power to men." Matthew 9:8 (NKJV) Jesus first showed people the love of God by meeting them in their place of need. He healed and encouraged and befriended them. THEN, people came for instruction and THEN He taught them His ways and His ways of receiving strength and life from God. Often we want to teach people who have not asked us to teach them. They first need to be shown the practical ways God wants to bring His love to them. He went out and visited people in need and healed them. Then, they came to be instructed and taught. Jesus did not go around trying to meet every need of every person. He trusted in the wisdom and timing of His Father who loved all and would help all who came to Him. Jesus did what He saw His Father doing. He knew God loved all men, but also that men needed to repent of their ways of living for themselves and come to God so they might find the life of God. He knew man’s greatest need was to know God and follow Him. He knew that God would use difficulties of life to prepare men to receive His Holy and Righteous life. He knew that God would have to prepare men’s hearts for them to be able to receive the blessings of God. He was Father focused rather than need focused. Jesus wants us to know the blessedness of living in His life, having His nature developed in us so that we might be able to fully know the love of God and the blessedness of serving Him. He wants us to do good things for people. BUT He wants us to know the true joy of showing people the blessedness of having the life of God in us, enabling us to do things that would not only touch their natural lives but their hearts also. As we spend time with God He will show us things for us to do for others. He will give us divine direction for helping particular people He brings across our paths. We will know the blessedness of living for the glory of our Father, as Jesus did. We will do these things because that is the way Jesus lived and now He lives in us to bring these ways through us. A Prayer Father we rejoice in your love for us and for all men. We rejoice that you can use vessels like us to bring your divine life and help to a needy world. We rejoice that by having Jesus living in us, and by having Your Holy Spirit guiding us we can truly let the light of Christ shine by doing God directed actions which will help the outward and inward needs of people. We rejoice that as you work through us people will give glory to You and know that You love them and are able to use people like us to help others. Blessed be your name O Lord. BACK TO TOP |
