The Lord Is Building Up Zion For the LORD shall build up Zion; He shall appear in His glory. (Psalm 102:16 NKJV) God promises to build up Zion and to show forth His glory in doing it. What is Zion? How might God build it up? What will be some of the manifestations of His glory as He does this? This document will address some of these questions. The first mention of Zion in the Bible is in 2 Samuel 5:7. Here Zion refers to the fortress David built on a mountain he captured from the Jebusites. Mount Zion then became the place where David built his city, and where he established the tabernacle of Zion, a place where God was worshipped day and night. Later, Zion came to include the entire area of Jerusalem (Psalm 2:6; Psalm 48:2). Then its meaning expanded to include the entire land of Israel and the nation of Israel (Isaiah 40:9; Zechariah 9:13). Zion also has a spiritual meaning. The term “Zion” is continued in the New Testament, where it is given the Christian meaning of God's spiritual kingdom, the church of God, or the heavenly Jerusalem (Hebrews 12:22). God promises to build up all aspects of Zion. He promises to restore the tabernacle of David (Amos 9:11). He is doing that throughout the world. There are places where there is continuous worship and prayer 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He is also building His tabernacle in His people. Many are receiving spiritual songs in the overnight hours. Jesus said we should worship God in spirit and in truth; this is happening today as God begins the process of showing His indignation and judgments in the world. In Isaiah 30:27-31 these days are prophesied. In the midst of these verses (verse 29) God says we shall have songs in the night. God is building up the nation and land of Israel. He has brought the people of Israel back to their land as He promised to do. The Christians and Messianic Jews are worshipping together in the land. The nation of Israel is on the forefront of the international media, as God prepares to show His glory in Christ in the land of Israel to the Jews and to the world. God is building up His heavenly Mount Zion. According to Hebrews 12:22-23, the Christian community has been brought into that place; many Christians are becoming aware of dwelling there. In this place, we are surrounded by an innumerable company of angels. Many vocal groups are coming forth with songs of heaven, singing the songs of the angels as described in Revelation 4 and 5. In this place we know Jesus as the Mediator of the New Covenant. Many are coming into the reality that we are being delivered from all of our enemies so we can serve God in holiness and righteousness NOW (Luke 1:74-75). Many are experiencing the reality of loving God with our whole heart, and of receiving His heavenly life continually so we walk in our spirit and do not fulfill the lusts of our flesh (Ezekiel 36:24-28). Many, aware that Jesus is speaking from heaven, are walking in the revelation He is bringing, giving them supernatural wisdom and strength to operate in this world. God’s children are experiencing the results of living in the heavenly Mount Zion--and yet we know this is only the beginning of the manifestation of the glory of God to His people of Zion….
