Word of the Month
from Rich Fick

Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord

This thought has been resonating in my spirit during the past months. In my overnight prayer times this word would often come forth.

This thought has also been given to us many times as people have prayed for us concerning this ministry. In November of 1978 God called me during an overnight prayer time to go to Mount Sinai in February of 1979. Kay was 8 months pregnant with our second child at the time. When I asked God to affirm this call, He responded by saying that our son, Timothy William, would be born on December 29th. Timothy was born on that date, and so I was given the grace to go to Mount Sinai in February 1979. As I was ascending Mount Sinai, the words of the following song kept coming into my spirit and mind: I hear a voice coming from the mountain. I hear it louder each day. I hear a sound coming from the mountain, and it says, "Prepare ye the way. Prepare ye the way, prepare ye the way, prepare ye the way of the Lord."

When I came home from Mount Sinai in 1979, I went to a regular prayer meeting I was leading at a church near our home. A 70 + year-old grandmother from Kentucky was there. I had not previously met her. Her son-in-law attended these meetings. This woman explained that while I was in Israel, she was awakened on four occasions, and could not go back to sleep until she wrote down some words in her notebook. After this had happened four times, she talked to her daughter and son-in-law. They told her that they felt these were instructions for Rich Fick, and she flew from Kentucky to Chicago to share them with me that evening. These revelations which she received for me included: "Prepare ye the way, cast down the olive branches of My Word on the way. Anoint yourselves with olive oil for a cleansing and be ye totally healed. Like John in the wilderness, herald My coming."

In 1982, I felt called by God to leave my position at IBM and to start Cyrus Ministries. Kay was in agreement for us to consider this. I shared this call and vision with my fellow elders and the pastors at our church. We all came together to seek God’s will concerning this call. All received confirmation that we should do this. One of the elders received the following: I have "two passages about John the Baptist: a) Prepare the way; make the crooked paths straight and the way smooth. b) Jesus’ words - "What would you go out to see, a reed shaken by the wind, a man in fine raiment? No, but a prophet and much more than a prophet.""

For a 20-year period I was an area advisor for Women’s Aglow fellowship, helping to oversee their area conferences. One of the speakers gave me a prophetic word: "My Son, My Son, I have much for you to see. Draw aside from the world and come closer to Me, for the time is short; the night hour is at hand and I desire to show you what will come upon this land. For the time of sorrows is near."

One of the words I received while at Mount Sinai in 1979 was that there would come a time of great shaking of the heavens and the earth. (Hebrews 12:26) In this time the presence of God would be revealed in the hearts of His people, and in Jerusalem. The world has just been shaken by the most powerful earthquake in recorded history; the date was 12-26.

There are several Biblical themes concerning, "Prepare ye the way."  One is:

"’Behold, I send My messenger, and he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,’ says the LORD of hosts." (Malachi 3:1 NKJV)

God is raising up many with this theme of, "Prepare ye the way." The Lord is coming to the hearts of His people—His temple—and He will do a work of cleansing and healing. This is the New Covenant promise of God. God calls us to love Him with all of our heart. He calls us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Under the Law this is a command, which we cannot fulfill. Under the Gospel, this is a promise of the New Covenant, in which God says, "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. "I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. Then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; you shall be My people, and I will be your God. (Ezekiel 36:26-28 NKJV)

‘Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the LORD; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with their whole heart. (Jeremiah 24:7 NKJV)

We can love God with all of our heart, as He loves us with all of His heart. Jesus loved His Father wholeheartedly. He always did the will of His Father. Now, as the mediator of the New Covenant, He is able to impart His very heart—His nature—into us and to keep us in the love of God. That is the promise of the New Covenant. We can do the acts of God—healing the sick, feeding the hungry, teaching and discipling, delivering the captives—bringing about the spiritual reign of Christ as He directs us. These are the New Covenant promises.

The verse in Malachi says that THE LORD, WHOM YOU SEEK will do these things. Many are not seeking Jesus to do all these things. We have been satisfied with a part of the Gospel. That is why God says, "I will shake the heavens and the earth." We are moving into a time when the spiritual powers are being shaken and when God is encouraging His people to come into all of the Heavenly Kingdom He has for us, letting go of the ways and traditions of this world. We are called to come out of Babylon and to live in the Kingdom of God, as Jesus did.

Jesus knows how to save us completely. He knows how to motivate us so we cry out for more of Him—His holiness, His power, His wisdom, His sanctifying power, His constant communion with His Father, etc. We can have supernatural revelation, wisdom, and strength, demonstrating the life of God in us. The world will see what God is able to do in His people. God is able to show His love and power in His people, which will overcome all the powers of hell that are operating in the world. As the Mediator and the Surety of the New Covenant, Jesus is called to do these things for us. He is God; He is Lord; He is our Savior. He will shake the heavens and the earth and cause us to cry out for more, because He loves us and eagerly wants to do this for us. He is coming in power to do these things.

Prepare ye the way of the Lord!
