Seek My Face

"if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray
      and
seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from
heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
                                                                                        (2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV)

God seems to be giving us special grace to pray more.  We all know we need to do this, and that our personal lives, our families, our communities, our states, and our nation need more prayer.  God promises to pour out a “spirit of grace and supplication” upon His people so that “they will look on Him whom they have pierced.” (Zechariah 12:10)  The darkness of the times is increasing with the rise of pornography on the internet, and the acknowledgement and recognition of aberrant sexual behaviors as OK.  The courts allow us to acknowledge Jesus as one of the gods, but not to publicly portray Him as the God of all gods.  We can set up Greek gods and goddesses on the tops of our national buildings, but we dare not put a cross on one of them.  We need God to heal our land.  We need to pray, and God in His mercy is giving us the grace to pray more.

We have had all-night prayer meetings at our Big Rock facility each of the last two months. (Some might say, “It’s about time!”)  These have been blessed times.  About 20 people have been coming.  This last time our major prayer focus was for rain.  The verse preceding 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “When I shut up the heavens…if My
people…”
The absence of rain is an especially important time to pray.

The verse calling us to pray also calls us to humble ourselves, to seek the face of God, and to turn from our wicked ways.  We need to humble ourselves.  God is putting us into situations in which we need His Divine guidance and revelation.  When He brought the children of Israel into the promised land, He told them that they would not be able to water their gardens like they did in Egypt, but that they would need to depend on Him for rainfall for their land.  In these days, God is bringing us into situations in which we need His continual wisdom and His power.  He is bringing us into a realization that the spiritual powers of evil are trying to destroy us, our family units, our communities, our states, and our nation.  He is bringing us into a deeper understanding of all the grace He has for us to live above the sinful ways of this world, of our flesh and of the demonic forces that have ruled over and around us.

He is calling us to seek His face, to have close eye-to-eye contact.  After repenting of His sin, David heard God tell him, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” (Psalm 32:8. NKJV)  We can see the eyes of compassion as we “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29 NKJV)

We might hear Him remind us of the words spoken of Him: "Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen, my Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased!  I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He will declare justice to the Gentiles. (Matthew 12:18 NKJV)

We are living in times when we must hear the word God is speaking to us.  God is shaking the heavens and the earth, as He said He would in Hebrews 12:26.  He also said in the previous verse that we must hear what He is speaking from heaven (Hebrews 12:25).  Jesus who is speaking will come and heal, instruct, and purify our hearts.  He promises to do this (Malachi 3:1-4).  Jesus, the Mediator of the New Covenant, will fulfill its promises to us.  Under the New Covenant, God promises “To grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.” (Luke 1:74-75 NKJV)

As we seek His face we will repent, and we will have confidence that we can serve Him in holiness and righteousness.  His life will flow from Him into all of us, and then through us; we will have victory over all our enemies.  These are the days that are upon us.

How will this be worked out?  I don’t have all the answers.  I do know that David had victory as He sat before the Lord, listening to Him and meditating on Him.  God gave His revelation during these times so that David could have victory over God’s enemies when He sent him into battle.  God would do the same for us.  This moved David to say,

“One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple.” (Psalm 27:4 NKJV)

This is one of the reasons God is moving us to provide a place where people can come and know and experience the presence of God in this way: “to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple.”

Come, let us worship, pray, and hear from God together.
